Advancing Sustainable Development in the Lake Basin: USK Foundation Facilitates Cooperation Between Kisumu County and LVRLAC

Kisumu, Kenya – The USK Foundation has facilitated and supported a landmark cooperation framework between the Kisumu County Assembly and the Kenyan chapter of the Lake Victoria Regional Local Authorities Cooperation (LVRLAC). The framework was formalized in the presence of Assembly leadership and Hon. Richard Ogindo, the Chairman of LVRLAC (Kenya Chapter) and Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Central Kasipul.

This strategic collaboration establishes a pathway for integrating United Ancient Nations (UAN) humanitarian and cultural models within the Lake Victoria Basin. As the local liaison for UAN, the USK Foundation is supporting initiatives dedicated to restoring dignity and self-reliance to riparian communities by leveraging shared expertise in healthcare access, housing support, and climate resilience.

Key objectives of the facilitated framework include:

  • Community Restoration: Implementing sustainable development programs designed to uplift the livelihoods of fishing and trading communities along the lake.
  • Climate Resilience: Applying indigenous ecological knowledge to address environmental challenges unique to the Lake Victoria ecosystem.
  • Rights Advocacy: Ensuring all initiatives align with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the 2010 Constitution of Kenya, which mandates the protection of marginalized groups.

Through the facilitation of this tripartite alliance, the USK Foundation continues to bridge the gap between ancient community wisdom and modern local governance. This effort ensures that the heritage of the Lake Victoria region is preserved while driving inclusive economic growth for its residents.
