The USK Foundation recently held a high-level consultative meeting with Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, EGH, reflecting on his transformative tenure as Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health.[1][2]
The discussion centered on the United Ancient Nations (UAN) health pillar, which advocates for an integrated approach to wellness. Drawing from Hon. Kagwe’s experience in leading Kenya’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation presented its model for community resilience grounded in indigenous nutritional wisdom and traditional wellness practices.
Key strategic areas of synergy include:
- Integrating Traditional Wisdom: Aligning UAN’s holistic wellness models with national health goals to recognize the role of indigenous nutrition in preventative care.
- Marginalized Community Health: Discussing how the Foundation’s programs in Taita Taveta and Kisumu County can supplement national efforts to improve maternal and youth health outcomes in underserved regions.
- Mental Well-being: Introducing indigenous-centered counseling frameworks as a vital component of social protection and national mental health advocacy.
Through this engagement, the USK Foundation continues to bridge the gap between ancient heritage and modern healthcare, ensuring a healthier and more resilient future for all Kenyans.
