Advancing Urban Excellence: USK Foundation Engages Nairobi City County to Facilitate Sustainable Development Frameworks

Nairobi, Kenya: The USK Foundation recently held a high-level strategic consultative meeting with a senior delegation from the Nairobi City County Government. The session focused on exploring and facilitating frameworks designed to uplift the city’s marginalized and indigenous populations through strategic cooperation and modern development models.

The consultative session brought together key leadership from the Governor’s office and the donor coordination wing, including Dr. Kefa Omanga (Director of Donor Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement), Ms. Molly Achieng Owino (Deputy Director of Donor Coordination), Mr. Victor (Assistant Director), and Mr. William Ndung’u (Political Advisor to H.E. Governor Johnson Sakaja).

The discussions focused on facilitating assistance to the County in line with Governor Sakaja’s vision of a “City of Order, Dignity, Hope, and Opportunity for all,” specifically exploring how the United Ancient Nations (UAN) expertise can be applied to Nairobi’s immediate developmental needs.

Key areas of synergy and potential facilitation discussed include:

  • Nutrition and Food Security: Exploring the alignment of global indigenous feeding models with the “Dishi na County” school feeding initiative to ensure vulnerable children in Nairobi’s informal settlements have access to consistent nutrition.
  • Performance and Project Tracking: Offering support to the Performance Management and Donor Coordination units by sharing international best practices in institutional governance to streamline the implementation of multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Youth and Women Empowerment: Facilitating the introduction of UAN’s traditional and digital empowerment models to help youth from marginalized backgrounds gain market-ready skills, bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and the modern digital economy.
  • Sustainable Urban Ecology: Supporting environmental protection initiatives that utilize Indigenous Ecological Knowledge (IEK) to enhance Nairobi’s green spaces and climate resilience.

As the local liaison for the UAN, the USK Foundation is establishing its regional office in Nairobi with a projected annual budget of USD 10 million to serve as a long-term resource for the City County. This engagement reinforces our dedication to the 2010 Constitution, which recognizes culture as the bedrock of the nation and mandates the protection of marginalized groups.

Through these facilitated discussions, the USK Foundation is working to ensure that as the capital grows, its indigenous roots and most vulnerable citizens are empowered as key contributors to a vibrant, culturally rich, and dignified metropolis.
