Kampala, Uganda – In a strategic step toward ensuring a secure and enabling environment for marginalized communities, delegates from the USK Foundation held a consultative meeting with SP Martin Okoyo, a senior leader in the Uganda Police Force and current District Police Commander (DPC) for Kampala Central.
The meeting focused on the intersection of public safety and the protection of indigenous rights. As the local liaison for the United Ancient Nations (UAN), the USK Foundation presented its vision for restoring dignity to marginalized populations—a goal that requires strong collaboration with law enforcement to ensure social harmony and the protection of vulnerable groups.
Key highlights of the engagement included:
- Protection of Marginalized Rights: Discussions on how law enforcement can better support the safety of indigenous and marginalized communities, particularly in urban and transit hubs like Kampala.
- Conflict Resolution & Social Harmony: Leveraging SP Okoyo’s extensive experience as a seasoned commander in regions like Gulu, Hoima, and Mityana to develop community-centered security models that respect local cultural dynamics.
- Coordinating Humanitarian Logistics: Exploring framework-level cooperation for the safe and efficient delivery of UAN-led humanitarian initiatives, including food security and digital empowerment programs across the region.
By engaging with key security leaders like SP Martin Okoyo, the USK Foundation reinforces its “Multi-Year Community Engagement” strategy, ensuring that its humanitarian and cultural work is backed by a secure institutional foundation. This collaboration marks a vital step in bridging the gap between national security frameworks and the unique protection needs of East Africa’s indigenous peoples.
