Building Resilient Safety Nets: USK Foundation Consults with Ministry of Labour and Social Protection on Indigenous Empowerment

Nairobi, Kenya – Strengthening the roadmap for social inclusion, the USK Foundation recently held a strategic consultative meeting with Mr. Abdirahman Ali, a key associate to the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Hon. Alfred Mutua.

The meeting focused on aligning the United Ancient Nations (UAN) framework with the Ministry’s mandate to protect vulnerable populations and enhance social welfare. As the local liaison for UAN, the USK Foundation presented its proven models for restoring dignity and self-reliance to marginalized and indigenous communities—core objectives that mirror the Ministry’s mission.

Key areas of synergy discussed included:

  • Social Protection for the Marginalized: Adapting UAN’s indigenous-centered humanitarian models to bolster Kenya’s social safety nets, particularly in food security and housing for those in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs).
  • Youth & Women Empowerment: Showcasing the Foundation’s investment in leadership development and digital literacy, designed to equip youth from marginalized backgrounds with the skills needed for the modern labor market.
  • Holistic Well-being: Introducing the Foundation’s mental well-being and counseling initiatives as a vital component of social protection for workers and families facing economic uncertainty.

By engaging with the office of CS Alfred Mutua, the USK Foundation is bridging the gap between ancient community wisdom and modern social policy. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to ensuring that Kenya’s economic growth is inclusive, protecting the rights and livelihoods of every citizen, from the grassroots to the national level.
