USK Foundation Delegates Engage at UN Youth Environment Program in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya – Delegates of the USK Foundation participated in the UN Youth Environment Program event titled “Voices for Change: Driving Advocacy Through Eco-Spiritualities,” held at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Headquarters on February 17, 2024.

The Global Youth Environment Assembly (Global YEA) served as a vital platform, bringing together young environmental enthusiasts, advocates, and policy contributors from around the world. The assembly facilitated in-depth policy discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaborative efforts, culminating in the formulation of the Global Youth Declaration on Environment. This declaration aims to unify diverse youth voices in calling for effective, inclusive, and sustainable global actions to combat climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, with the declaration presented at the sixth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6).

During the event, delegates of the USK Foundation contributed perspectives drawn from ancient Hindu principles, emphasizing reverence for all living and non-living entities as divine manifestations. Key concepts such as Advaita (Oneness) and the interconnectedness of all existence were highlighted, along with the view of Earth as a living entity worthy of respect and protection.

Practical applications shared included commitments to eco-friendly practices, such as restricting harmful materials like plastics, prioritizing reusable, recyclable, or recycled alternatives, promoting organic farming for self-sustenance, and supporting global initiatives for recycling and distributing essential resources to communities in need.

The USK Foundation’s involvement underscored a strong stance in favor of environmental protection and the adoption of sustainable policies worldwide. Through this engagement in “Voices for Change,” the foundation contributed to the broader global dialogue on integrating spiritual and cultural values into advocacy and policy-making for effective, long-term environmental solutions.

The USK Foundation remains dedicated to participating in international youth and environmental forums, fostering inclusive discussions, and supporting collaborative efforts to address the planet’s pressing ecological challenges.
